“Nature to be commanded, must be obeyed” was a noteworthy saying of Francis Bacon. This way of thinking is nowhere more correct than when it comes to teaching dogs. Dogs will have a natural inclination to search for and stay with a ranking structure with a leader (alpha) at the topmost of the pack and all the way down to an omega at the bottom. That is why the ‘Down’ technique is certainly helpful for reinforcing your position as alpha.

Are you considering getting a new addition to your family? If so, then you may want to look into the large dog breeds. However, you should take note that when there are big dogs, there is also big responsibility. As with any pet, the dog is going to need attention. The dog will require lots of food, fresh water and wonderful walks. They will want to be played with. You will find that one of their favorite past times is fetch. There is no denying that they are lovely dogs. However, you need to be ready to take on that responsibility. If you are not going to devote your time to your dog and lock him or her in another room, then you may want to stick with a gold fish or no pet at all.
