Every pet dog, or for that matter, every pet, needs some amount of grooming. Grooming a pet is the core duty of the pet possessor. & it is very significant to know the correct process of grooming your pet in order to have a pet which is happy and which you can be proud of.

The initial step towards choosing a dog grooming kit for your little darling would be to decide why you want to groom it. If you desire to enter your prized canine in a dog show, you would clearly require many more dog grooming tools than you would if caring for your dog is your motive for grooming it.

When you purchase a dog, collect as much info as feasible on the specific grooming needs of the particular breed, if any. It is not adequate to purchase a dog’s grooming kit. It is significant to buy one that is desirable for your dog.

A dog grooming kit normally comprise of the following tools: fur clippers, clipper blades, clipper cooling tools, boxes for storing, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, grooming sprays, flea combs, variety of brushes, ear cleaners, cotton dabs to clean ears, rakes, nail clippers, astringent pencils (to clot blood in case the dog starts bleeding during nail trimming) etc. Make sure the dog grooming kit you select contains these basic items. Check to make sure that the comb has fine & coarse teeth. A fingertip toothbrush works best. Special toothpastes are obtainable for dogs. Never, ever substitute them with human toothpaste. It might be a wise idea to consult a vet with regard to the best brand of shampoo desirable for the specific breed of dog you own. In case your dog has leaky tear ducts, you would need stain removal items to keep the area around the eyes free of buildups. A dog grooming kit may or may not contain a towel. It is best to choose a towel that is soft and spongy. Some dog grooming kits also include a pair of scissors to cut hair every now & then. A grooming table is usually needed only in case of dogs groomed for shows.

One of the most significant tools in a dog grooming kit is the clipper. The clipper you select would be directly dependent upon the fur quality of your dog. Standard clippers with single speed mechanisms are normally adequate for dogs with thin & short fur. On the other hand, those with thick, wavy fur need clippers with higher speed. Moreover, if your dog requires to have its fur clipped frequently, most vet & groomers commend dual speed clippers. In fact, if your dog has thick & curly hair & you are not very capable or experienced about clipping, it is wise to let a professional groomer take over.

You would require a variety of brushes in your dog grooming kit to groom your dog. A slicker brush is really useful to whisk off dull hair while a rake is most vital for brushing the underfur. While dogs with long hair need pin brushes, bristle brushes are suitable for those with short fur. A mat comb is required for dogs that have a problem with tangling.

Dog teeth cleaning is something which should become a daily part of your routine of caring for your pet. Just like us, dogs can develop tooth disease; making it very important to make sure that you care for your pet’s health by keeping their teeth clean and tartar free.

Dental Disease and Your Dog’s Health

Diseases of the mouth, teeth, and gums can be very painful for your pooch and because they aren’t able to tell us when they have a toothache, as pet owners we must be diligent in keeping up with our dog’s dental care. If left untreated, a tooth infection may develop into serious complication for your dog and affect vital organs such as their heart, liver, or kidneys.

Your dog’s diet definitely has a direct effect on their dental health. Choosing foods and treats that are fortified and designed to keep their teeth and gums healthy are an easy way to implement dental hygiene into your dog’s life. Although professional cleaning by a veterinarian is an option, this should only be considered in extreme cases as unnecessarily having your dog anesthetized is not only expensive, but it also puts undue stress on your pet.

Getting Started with Dog Teeth Cleaning

Even if your dog is no longer a puppy you can train them to accept having their teeth brushed with some patience and perseverance. Both dogs and puppies alike can be acclimated to having the toothbrush in their mouths simply by starting out using your finger and a dab of peanut butter.

Your dog will lick your finger – this will let you start rubbing their teeth and gums. Be sure to offer plenty of praise while you do this. Soon, your dog will be used to this and you can move on to a finger wrapped in gauze. Rub the teeth and gums in a circular motion, just as you would with a toothbrush. When your pet becomes accustomed to this, you’re ready to move in to the real thing.

Don’t use toothpaste made for people – this will give your dog an upset stomach. Use dog toothpaste instead; these are designed to be appealing to dogs. Let your dog lick some off of the brush, then add more and start brushing.

You’ll need to lift up your dogs’ gums to be able to reach their upper teeth -the canines especially. To get the best results, hold the brush at a 45 degree angle; this lets you clean teeth and gums simultaneously. Use a circular motion and pay special attention to your pets’ back teeth, which are especially subject to tooth disease.

Make dog teeth cleaning a happy occasion for your dog. Keep low key to prevent your dog from getting too excited to hold still. You should only need abut a minute to get your dogs’ teeth clean and make sure that they stay healthy and happy.

The art of persuasion is a good skill to develop when dog training. Your voice is the most important aspect of this skill. It’s important to use your dog’s name before each command, and to use a persuasive tone of voice. Keep your tone of voice low and pleasant, but also firm.

Talk constantly to your dog when dog training. When training your dog to retrieve, you’ll need to persuade him to take an item from you. Great dog training aids for this are very light dumbbells. As soon as your dog starts to take the dumbbell, immediately praise him with a happy and excited voice. And don’t forget to pet him as well.

Don’t ever use an angry tone of voice when dog training. Getting angry with your dog will defeat the purpose of getting your dog to comply with your wishes. It will cause your dog to become anxious and possibly confused.

Always remember that your dog is trying to please you. This is the case even when he is not following your commands. Your dog may not understand what you want of him. He is not being deliberately disobedient.

As soon as your dog understands what you want him to do, he will take great delight in, e.g. taking the dumbbell from you. In fact, you’ll probably find that your dog will be happy to retrieve the dumbbell from you again and again.

If your dog does not understand that you want him to take the dumbbell (or whichever other dog training aids you’re using), it may be necessary to gently place the dumbbell in his mouth and then gently hold his jaws closed by placing both your hands around his muzzle. Be careful not to bang your dog’s teeth on the dumbbell.

Dog training sessions are a great opportunity for you to spend some quality time with yoru dog. Yes, dog training takes time and effort. It sometimes takes considerable patience. But always bear in mind that dog training should be a fun time for your and your dog.

Once you have placed the dumbbell in your dog’s mouth several times, encourage your dog to take the dumbbell from your hand himself.

Once your dog is taking the dumbbell from your hand, encourage him to pick it up off the ground just in front of him. Then move the dumbbell gradually further and further away from him, and give him the command of “Fetch”.

No Sticking Their Heads Out The Window: Although most pets will take great enjoyment from spending the entire road trip with their head out the window, it’s not safe. Your pet can easily be injured by flying debris from the road not to mention other cars. Along this same tip, I hope that it should go without mention that traveling with your pet in the back of the pickup truck is also a definite no-no! Some states even have laws restricting this type of animal transport because it is always dangerous.

Stop Frequently: You should take frequent stops to let your pet walk around for a few minutes and use the bathroom. Most rest stops and travel assistance areas will have specific areas for you to take your pet. Always pickup after your pet and try to stay in the designated “pet zone” when walking your pet. Always keep your pet on a lease and make sure that they have proper identification on their collar whenever they are outside of the car.

Give Them Plenty Of Water: At each rest stop make sure to have some water available for your pet to drink from. Sometimes car travel will upset your pets stomach and this will give it something to help prevent sickness. Something that a lot of people recommend is to take ice cubes on road-trips as they’re a fun way for your pet to get their needed re-hydration and it doesn’t take up as much room as bringing lots of water will.

No Feeding Your Pets Fast Food: It’s a safe bet to refrain from feeding your pets anything extra on long road trips. Just stick to their regular amount of food at their regular feeding time. Try to refrain from letting them eat any leftovers from your own meals, especially if they’re from a fast-food restaurant. Greasy food and pets aren’t a good mix.

Don’t Leave Them Alone In The Car: Don’t leave your pets alone in your car while you run errands. On summer days the inside of your car can easily reach 120 degrees in minutes, even if you have the windows cracked open. Pet thieves also have been known to prey on pets left alone in cars at rest stops, so prevent their attempts by keeping your pets at your side.

Don’t Let Them Run Around The Car: Always keep your pet safely restrained while in your car. Using a pet safety-harness or travel dog kennel are the safest ways to keep your pets restrained and out of harms way. These will not only keep your pet from injury, but they also prevent your pet from distracting you while you are driving. A pet safety harness works just like a regular seatbelt. Let your pet wear the harness for a while before you go on your first road trip. This will get them familiar with the harness and you’ll be able to adjust it for optimal comfort. If your dog prefers a travel kennel, make sure that it has amble ventilation. If you have a large car or SUV, you might want to consider using a vehicle barrier. Always remember that the passenger seat is the last place your pet should ever be sitting while your car is moving.

Comfortable and Secure: The number one thing to focus on should be your pets comfort. If your pet is comfortable then the ride will go smoothly. Their comfort is as important as your own. Imagine having to drive on a long-trip sitting in a seat that hurts or is uncomfortable. It’d make for a pretty un-fun trip! Same goes for your pet. An easy trick to put your pet at ease is to bring along their favorite toy or blanket.

Utilizing a wireless pet fence to keep your pet safely within the yard is not only easy to set up, but it is also a safer alternative to traditional fences. Some feel that these types of fences are not safe for the dog and that it could cause serious damage to them over time. Truthfully, if you take the time to train your dog to avoid the fence boundaries then they will keep away from them altogether. Even better is that these kinds of fences also do not do any type of long-term damage, and they do not especially hurt for more than one second.

by Clementine Jacobs

A wireless pet fence is actually is actually more effective at keeping your beloved pets within your yard, and hence safe from outside dangers. than other fence types. You may think that these kinds of fences may be harmful to the dog if used for a long time, or even if used only once. However, if you take the time to train your dog to avoid the fence boundaries then they will keep away from them altogether. Even better is that wireless fences do not do any long term damage because of the small amount of electricity they use, making them completely safe.

So many people feel that these fences are not safe because of the jolt of electricity that is sent to your dog when they get too close to the system’s wire. These are not actually fences, but really wires that are electrically charged. They are run underneath the ground around your home. Your dog must wear a special collar with a receiver to make the wireless pet fence effective: when the collar gets near the wire, they are jolted. Often two or three times of experiencing this jolt is enough to deter your pooch from getting too close to the outside of the yard, but he or she will still require some training from you to really get the gist of it.

These types of fences are also affordably priced in the low hundreds, which means they are far more affordable than standard fences. To install, you need to dig around the outer diameter of your lawn and lay the wire underground. Many people mark where the wires are with marks so that you and your dog can take notice of where it is later on. It is very easy and takes almost no time at all.

While caging your dog up in your yard may seem like it is going against their nature, it is necessary to ensure their safety. Holding your pup on a leash can also be painful and actually keeps them from doing any physical activity. Dogs are never happy to be tied to a tree or a post. They want to have free range of where they live and play, and you can give them that to a point.

You should not be worried about your dog’s safety or comfort with this type of fence. While training may be difficult and it seems cruel at first, but they will learn to live with the fence over time and be happy to stay within its boundaries. A wireless pet fence is a great way to both give your dog some space to run in, and to give you some peace of mind that they will not be escaping anytime soon. They are happy to be able to run around, and you will be happy enough to know that they will not be in any sort of danger after you set up the fence.

Pets and pet owners can enjoy the benefits that are associated with dog training. There are a number of techniques that can be utilized in training the dogs so that they become obedient. All dogs should be taught the most essential trait which is obedience as this makes it easy for the owner of the pet to have control over the pet. This reduces the likelihood of the dog engaging in severe situations and assists in preventing the dog from being involved in severe accidents. By commanding the pet to stay close to the owner especially when some dangerous situation is seen to be developing, ensures that the dog is not involved in any serious incident.

The practice of dog training is normally a pleasurable event to the pet dogs and the owners of the pets as well. The fundamental commands used in training the pets such as sit, stay and come are essential and the dogs can learn them through utilization of the simple methods for pet training. The training of pets’ exercises creates an immediate bond between the owners of the pets and the pets themselves. This is due to the fact that the two share an interaction that is harmonious and both work well together during the training. All the above are achieved by adopting the methods considered to be appropriate in training dogs.

Pet dogs that bark excessively at other pets as well as people can be quite a nuisance to neighbors and pet owners as well. Barking excessively can on occasion escalate into instances in which the dog becomes aggressive plus it may also cause the dog to attack if it becomes anxious or excited. Through using proper techniques for pet training, one can ensure that their pet dogs do not bark unnecessarily at other people and pets.

When training the pets, make sure positive techniques of corroboration are used and that the pets are offered rewards after they accomplish a particular task that they are required to perform. Techniques that have punishment attached to them are being viewed as unfashionable in addition to being cruel. A lot of pet trainers are promoting the application of the theory of dominance in training the dogs; nonetheless, methods that use positive corroboration are increasingly gaining reputation in addition to being recognized to be methods that can unlikely cause aggressive behavior in dogs.

The use of positive methods of reinforcement in dog training plus modification of behavior may be quite helpful in taking care of pets that are suffering from separation induced behavior disorders. In nature, dogs are subservient to their masters and obey all the commands they are given. There are some cases where the dog can be difficult to handle, prompting harsh action from their masters to make them submissive once again. Always keep in mind that training of the dogs while they are still very young guarantees better results than when they are older. Training should cover the dog’s behavior both indoors and outdoors.

Clicker Training is a training method that is not only used for dogs, but other animals as well. In fact, it was first used to train dolphins in captivity to allow the trainer to communicate with the dolphin as it was under water. Since this time, clicker training became the norm for training dolphins, fish, dogs, and other types of pets. Dog clicker training is now a great way to train young puppies, as well as older dogs.

A clicker is a simple metal gadget that creates a click sound that does not waver in volume or pitch. It is a quick single sound that animals are not afraid of and can respond to quickly. This type of training is one of the most humane ways to train a dog. It does not hurt the body of the dog or injure the dogs ears. Dog clicker training is used to associate the sound of the clicker with the desired behavior the trainer or owner seeks.

When the dog obeys the trainer, the sound of the click rewards the dog and sometimes a small treat is given simultaneously. Without the click, a treat alone can confuse the dog as it sometimes is not given quickly enough. The dog and especially a puppy can move around and wiggle a lot and thus the dog will not know what it is being rewarded for. Pared with the click, the dog associates the good behavior immediately to the click and not just a treat.

The owner, or trainer will want to start with allowing the dog to get used to hearing the click and immediately receiving a small treat. Soon, the owner will want to allow the dog to do a small task, one that the dog already is doing or has already learned. An example of this is if the dog is on a walk, and the dog urinates outside as opposed to inside. Immediately after the dog uses the outside for its waste, the clicker is used and the dog receives a treat. This reinforces this behavior in a positive way.

Similarly, if the dog jumps up on the couch or people he would be held back from the clicker sound and the treat. If the dog calms down and waits to see what the trainer is going to do, he would be given a quick click as the calmness is rewarded with the click and treat.

Once the dog learns to wait for the positive reinforcement of the clicker, he will learn at a quicker rate than just with voice commands or treats. Dog clicker training, voice commands with body language can all be used together to help the dog learn at a faster rate.

Dog clicker training can teach good habits and deter bad habits. It is the owner’s responsibility to raise a dog in a positive environment making happy dogs and happy owners and neighbors.

The first reason you should use natural cat food is because the food you buy at the store is generally lacking nutrition wise. When your cat gets the nutrition his body needs his life span doubles.

Most likely, your cat is begging for nutritionally sound food even though he eats food on a daily basis. When your cat gets the nutrition he needs he is able to live a long healthy life.

When your cat gets the proper nutrition he will not only life for much longer but his general quality of life goes up dramatically. Cat’s get many illnesses that are preventable and people spend thousands every year on vet bills. Cats with the proper diets generally get sick way less then other cats.

Feeding your cat natural cat food will give him a strong healthy immune system so he won’t have near the problems that other cats have.

Another thing along the lines of saving money while giving your cat the proper nutrition is that when a cat get the proper nutrition he will stop eating sooner. Cats do not comfort eat like humans. After your cat is used to receiving the proper nutrition you will only need to feed him once a day.

Another thing to consider when feeding your cat natural cat food is that you don’t have to wonder if it is safe for your cat. Making your own natural cat food is a great way to know exactly what your cat is eating. One important thing to note is that cats need a lot of taurine in their diet to live. Taurine is one of the most important things in a cats diet because it effects everything from their nerve function to their eyesight. Taurine can be found in unprocessed meat.

Some of the meat sources in commercial cat food include diseased, dying, or dead animals. This includes but is not limited to road kill, animals that are put down at the pound using poison, and dead or dying farm animals. So aside from your cat getting little nutrition from most store bought cat food it might also be causing them harm. Now please understand that these meat sources are not practiced by every single cat food company.

So whats the best way to help your cat achieve a long, healthy life? Feeding him food that is nutritionally sound like natural cat food.

There is nothing worse than being pulled by your dog while you are walking him and people are laughing at you. Well now you can stop your dog from pulling on the leash and be a proud owner of a well trained dog.

First, let’s look at some reasons. Well for starters dogs actually walk faster than we do and our pace is just to slow for them. They get very excited when taken out and can’t contain themselves when they see another dog or animal in front of them. Their hunting instinct kicks in and you don’t have a chance when they spot their chase.

Start training your dog at an early age as to avoid bad behavior when it’s time for his walks. Use an all weather harness as these will not choke your dog when you train. It is advisable to always use a harness and not a collar and chain. It really does cause harm to the dog’s throat.

Do your initial training indoors and in a room where there are no distractions. He does not need a harness at this stage of his training as you will first teach him to follow you. Step one – To get him to follow you, place an object small enough to fit on the palm of your hand. Get your dog’s attention by showing him the object and saying the trigger word “touch”. Let him come up to the object and he must touch it with his nose, but not be in front of you but behind you or next to you. Once he has done that, then walk away some and let him follow you. He must touch the object again with his nose when you say touch. Remember to give him a treat if he touches the object but stays behind you every time.

Take into account that he is now learning a completely new command and a new behavior so it will take a few days practice for both of you. Treat and give hugs and rubs when he has mastered his command.

Secondly, put his harness around his body and clip on the leash. Take him outside into the garden and repeat the program exactly like you did indoors. Now there are more distractions and he has to only listen to your voice. Teach him to walk next to you or behind you even if he hears sounds and picks up scents. Remember the touching of the object with his nose still plays a big role in his lesson. Even bigger role is your treat and confirmation that you are happy.

Whatever program you choose to stop your dog from pulling on the leash, you have to be consistent, patient and reward for correct behavior.

Bed bugs were commonly found in homes in the United States prior to World War II. After DDT was introduced, bed bugs all but died out in this country. Once the problems with DDT were discovered and it was banned from the market, the population of bed bugs began to grow once again. Today, bed bugs can cause problems in movie theaters, hotels and almost any place people congregate where fabric cover provides them a place to live. The only way you can keep from having bed bugs is to know bed bug detection techniques.

Bed bugs are approximately the size and somewhat lighter in color than an apple seed. They live in beds, sofas, and practically any upholstered furniture that will allow them to sneak out in the dark to enjoy the only thing that they eat human or animal blood. As soon as they finish their meal, the scurry back into hiding until the next night.

Bed bugs can travel into your home by means of your clothing, luggage or used furniture. They may have found their way onto your person at the office or at a movie theater. Once one bug gets into your home she may lay hundreds of eggs over her lifetime. Her offspring may also reproduce many other bugs. In a short time your entire home may become infested. With bed bugs, keeping a clean home does not seem to matter. All bed bugs need is a meal on your blood. If you are not available, they will feast on your pets. Try to put all clothing that has been in a hotel room immediately into the laundry. Store luggage sealed in plastic bags away from your bedroom until the next trip.

If a home is fully infested with bed bugs, there is a musty foul odor that fill the space. In fact, one way that bed bugs are detected is by the use of specially trained dogs that use their super sensitive noses to sniff out the bugs. Hopefully, you will be able to look for other signs of bed bugs that will allow you to get the problem under control before it becomes an all out infestation.

Since bed bugs are nocturnal, detection is often difficult. Look in cracks and creases on your bed. Look behind the headboard of your bed to see signs of infestation. If you do not see signs of actual bugs, you need to look for rust or brown spots on the bed or bedding especially along the edges of the bedding.

You may also see signs such as discarded skins or egg shells. Your box spring has many hiding places where the bugs can hide. Most of their lives may be spent inside the springs hidden by the mesh dust cover.

If you find bed bugs in the house, take immediate action to get rid of them. It will be a difficult task and you may need to call an exterminator, although many are inexperienced in dealing with bed bugs. Your mattress and box springs may need to be encased in a plastic zipper bag to prevent the bugs from eating. They will die without blood.

If you choose instead to discard your mattress and replace it, remove all clutter from the room and be sure that there are no bugs present before bringing in new bedding. Otherwise, you will just be starting the problem all over again.
